Locked In
Running late, Kyle wants to skip two of the wheelchair straps.
In this scene
Darnell: Morning, Mr. Okafor. Dialysis at nine, right on time.
Kyle: It's a ten-minute ride. Just the two back straps today, we're running late.
Darnell: All four straps, and his lap and shoulder belt. Every ride. Ten minutes is enough to get hurt.
Samuel: I feel safer when you do it properly, son.
Questions to think about
- How many tie-down straps secure a wheelchair in the van?
- Besides securing the chair, the passenger also needs:
- You're running late. What do you do?
Secure every rideEvery wheelchair passenger is secured every time: four tie-down straps on the chair, plus a lap and shoulder belt on the person. A short trip or a late schedule never changes that. Running late is a call to dispatch, not a shortcut.
