The Bruise Nobody Mentioned

Grace notices a bruise on Tasha's arm. Tasha doesn't want to talk about it.

In this scene

Grace: That looks sore. What happened to your arm?

Tasha: Nothing. I don't want to talk about it.

Grace: Okay. You don't have to. I just want to be sure you're safe. Does it hurt?

Tasha: A little.

Grace: Let's put something cold on it, and I'll ask the nurse to take a look. Is that okay?

Grace: I'll be right back with an ice pack.

Grace: New bruise on Tasha's left forearm, about two inches. She said she doesn't want to talk about it.

Denise: Did you ask her who did it?

Grace: No. That's not my job. My job is to keep her safe and report it.

Denise: Good. Make the call, then write it up.

Grace: Hello. I'm calling to report a possible injury of unknown cause to an adult I support.

Tasha: Thank you, Grace.

Grace: Anytime.

Questions to think about

  • Tasha says she doesn't want to talk about the bruise. What should Grace do?
  • Does Grace need proof that someone hurt Tasha before she reports?
  • Who should Grace tell?
What Grace got rightGrace noticed a new injury, cared for Tasha first, and didn't push her for details. Then she reported it right away and wrote down exactly what she saw. You don't need proof to report. You report what you see.
